Recap: LA Galaxy Beats FC Dallas, 5-1
May. 19, 2008
FC Dallas got its first look of the season at the high-scoring Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, and the home team didn't like the view.
Edson Buddle scored three goals, and David Beckham had an assist as LA blitzed Dallas , 5-1, before a crowd of 22,331, the largest ever for an FC Dallas match at Pizza Hut Park .
"It's an embarrassing performance," Dallas coach Steve Morrow said. "We are going through rough times at the moment."
Dallas (2-3-3) has three losses and a draw in its last four matches. It's last victory was on April 20, a 2-0 win at Chivas USA .
Dallas (2-3-3, 9 points) dropped to fourth place in the Western Conference, while the Galaxy (3-3-2, 11 points) moved into second.
FC Dallas was a man down after defender Adrian Serioux drew a red card in the 76th minute for a hard foul on Beckham. But the damage had been done in the first half.
Los Angeles , which leads MLS with 19 goals, scored four times in a span of 14 minutes in the first half, with Dallas defender Duilio Davino involved in three.
Defender Chris Klein gave the Galaxy a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Six minutes later, Buddle dribbled past Anthony Wallace and Davino on his way to his first goal of the afternoon.
In the 34th minute, Davino suffered his first own goal since joining FC Dallas when Landon Donovan's shot bounced into the net off Davino's leg. Just five minutes later, Davino's poor clearance set up Buddle, who made it 4-0.
"I don't think it's [just] Duilio's nor [just] the defense's responsibility," midfielder Pablo Ricchetti said of the scoring outburst. "Eleven of us entered the field, and 11 of us played a very bad first half."
Dominique Oduro scored FC Dallas' goal on a header in the 54th minute.
Donovan finished with two assists for the Galaxy.
LA was the last team to score four first-half goals against Dallas , doing so on July 31, 2007, in a SuperLiga match. Sunday also marked the first time Dallas surrendered five goals in a regular-season match since a 5-2 loss at Los Angeles on Oct. 14, 2006.
Cooper awaits call: FC Dallas forward Kenny Cooper recorded his first assist of the season Sunday, connecting with Oduro on his header.
The 23-year-old Cooper, a Dallas native, is among 33 players being considered by national team coach Bob Bradley to represent the U.S. in friendlies against England on May 28 in London and against Spain on June 4 in Santander , Spain .
Bradley will reveal the 22-player roster this week.
"I am excited about being named into the pool, but at the same time, I have to be focused on working hard and playing well here at FC Dallas," Cooper said. "If I do that, hopefully opportunities will come."

The Galaxy opened their stadium, the Home Depot Center on June 7. But in order for their home to be ready, the team had to play a record 8 games to start the season and failed to win a game. In fact, the Galaxy finish the season without a win away from home the whole season. After the season's final game, the Galaxy had the final playoff spot in the West. In their aggregate series with the Earthquakes, they seemed well on to vindication for the MLS Cup loss 2 years earlier as they held 4 goals to 0 lead midway through the 2 nd game. A thing happened as the Earthquakes scored four unanswered goals to force a tiebreaker. In that session, the Earthquakes' Rodrigo Farina score to send the Quakes onto the next round.
In 2004 Looking to return to the top, the Galaxy would go through a mediocre 1 st half of the season before 3 straight wins over the summer. But from July 14 on, the Galaxy won only 2 more games, one in September and one in October. The Galaxy had a record of 11-9-10, good enough for 2nd in the West and the playoff, remaining the only club in MLS to have a playoff spot in every year of league in the playoffs, the Galaxy withstood an early challenge from the Rapids to win the aggregate goal series, 2-1, scoring 2 times in Game 2. In the conference final, the Galaxy's season would come to an end in Kansas with a 2-0 loss to Arnaud and the Wizards.
