SDSU's Tally Hall Selected By Los Angeles Galaxy in 2007 Major League Soccer Draft
Jan. 12, 2007 INDIANAPOLIS -
San Diego State senior goalkeeper Tally Hall (Gig Harbor, Wash./Gig Harbor HS) has been selected by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the fourth round of the 2007 Major League Soccer Draft, held Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Galaxy, who went 11-15-6 in 2006, narrowly missing the playoffs, recently made news around the world with the signing of former England captain and Manchester United star David Beckham.
The Galaxy chose Hall, one of four goalkeepers and one of four Pac-10 players selected in the draft, with the 44th pick. Hall becomes the first Aztec chosen in the MLS Draft since Ted Chronopolous (fifth round) was picked by the New England Revolution in 1996. Last year, former SDSU standout Matt Couch was selected in the fourth round by the Galaxy in the MLS supplemental draft.
Hall, a two-time NSCAA and College Soccer News All-American, went 9-5-4 with a 1.04 goals against average and 80.0 shots-on-goal save percentage this season. In Pac-10 play, Hall was even better, going 5-1-3 and leading the conference in shutouts (four), goals against average (0.72) and shots-on-goal save percentage (0.72).
A semifinalist for the 2006 M.A.C. Hermann Trophy, Hall was a first-team all-Pac-10 honoree for the second straight season.
Hall was named Co-Most Valuable Player of The Soccer Post/Aztec Classic and later garnered all-tournament accolades at the USD/San Diego State Soccer Classic. On Sept. 26, he was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the first time in his career and on Oct. 2 he was selected to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week.
In early December, Hall spent a week in Sweden training with Swedish top flight bronze medalists Hammarby IF.

The Galaxy opened their stadium, the Home Depot Center on June 7. But in order for their home to be ready, the team had to play a record 8 games to start the season and failed to win a game. In fact, the Galaxy finish the season without a win away from home the whole season. After the season's final game, the Galaxy had the final playoff spot in the West. In their aggregate series with the Earthquakes, they seemed well on to vindication for the MLS Cup loss 2 years earlier as they held 4 goals to 0 lead midway through the 2 nd game. A thing happened as the Earthquakes scored four unanswered goals to force a tiebreaker. In that session, the Earthquakes' Rodrigo Farina score to send the Quakes onto the next round.
In 2004 Looking to return to the top, the Galaxy would go through a mediocre 1 st half of the season before 3 straight wins over the summer. But from July 14 on, the Galaxy won only 2 more games, one in September and one in October. The Galaxy had a record of 11-9-10, good enough for 2nd in the West and the playoff, remaining the only club in MLS to have a playoff spot in every year of league in the playoffs, the Galaxy withstood an early challenge from the Rapids to win the aggregate goal series, 2-1, scoring 2 times in Game 2.
